Europe Car Rental
When deciding to rent a car in Europe for your travels or vacation, you have a
large number of companies to choose from. In certain parts of Europe, a car may
very well the only truly feasible way of getting around, and it can also give
you freedom and flexibility while traveling. You can't simply ask the bus driver
to stop and let you get a meal at that nice restaurant on the corner, so this
can and usually is a very good option for many travelers. There are many things
to take into consideration beyond the company you rent from though, when
deciding on renting a vehicle for your travels. Where are you going? How many
are coming with you? Are you packing half your belongings? If you have children
or a lot of gear to take with you, then the obvious choice is an SUV. But this
then begs the question of fuel costs, especially if you are on a tight budget or
trying to conserve as much money as possible during your trip. Also, think about
what type of vehicle you'll be the most comfortable driving. No sense in renting
a convertible during the rainy season. Also, what about the transmission? Are
you comfortable driving a stick shift? If not, you'll want to be sure the car
you are deciding on has an automatic transmission, otherwise this could turn
into a costly mistake. What about the extras you might want or need? Going
skiing? Better be sure your rental car comes with a ski rack. If you aren't good
with directions, a vehicle with GPS is a must, because no one wants to get lost
on the road, let alone in a strange and distant country. Be sure to discuss any
concerns with your travel agent, and also ask if they have any suggestions on
particular extras based on what type of trip you are taking and where you plan
to go. How long you plan to rent your vehicle is also something to consider, and
can have a major effect on the type of company you will want to book with. When
renting for less than a week or two, your best bet will most likely be to deal
with a larger more accredited major rental company. Though if you plan on
renting for a longer trip, you may very well get a better rate with a smaller,
local company, like an auto dealer for instance. But, be wary of dealing with a
smaller company. You may pay a better rate, but this can come back to haunt you
if you get into an accident or break down. Local companies and auto dealers
usually lack the support services that the larger companies carry, and so far
from home, this can be a very expensive issue to succumb too.
To help lower your rate, ask about discounts for any major national
organisations, such as AAA, or credit card programs you belong to. This could
help substantially lower your rate. Also, if you are employed with a company
that frequently deals with rental car companies for rental vehicles, you may be
able to obtain a negotiated rate on your rental, saving you some extra money. If
the rental company you choose has a loyalty program, it's suggested that you
join the program when you book. These programs are usually free of charge, and
your information will be on file when you arrive, saving you from filling out
paperwork in a long line. With your information already on file, you will almost
be able to simply get in your car and go. One more piece of advice, be sure to
ask about the drop off charges for a one way trip when you're deciding what
company to rent from. These charges can cost you a lot of unexpected money, and
be a very large hassle for anyone
