history

One of the biggest sporting events held in Hawaii is the annual Honolulu Marathon. This world-class event, which began in 1973, is held every second Sunday of December and draws in lots of marathon enthusiasts from all over the world. What makes the Honolulu Marathon different from other marathons is the Aloha spirit of the countless volunteers and the organizers who make the event a reality.

Anyone can join this prestigious marathon event. There is no qualifying time required to enter and no time limit to finish the course. As much as 25,000 people have registered in this marathon yearly making it one of the biggest marathon events in the world. All you have to do is register online and pay the entrance fee required which depends on the date you register and if you are a resident of Hawaii or not. The entry fee usually ranges from $125 - $175 for non-Hawaiian residents and $80 - $175 for Hawaiian residents.

The marathon course starts at Ala Moana Boulevard and ends at Kapiolani Park. The course itself is moderately difficult due to the tropical climate and some hilly terrain that the runners have to pass through.
