India
is an immense country full of exotic beauty, sights, sounds, and flavours. One
of the most intricate places in the world, India is more than a sight to behold.
Rich in culture and diversity, many people have come to have a deep passion for
this beautiful country that keeps them coming back time and time again. Between
its tall mountains, thick jungles, large deserts and beautiful beaches, India
has something for anyone and everyone. The Himalayas, which is literally the
highest mountain range in the world, span its border from the Northeast to the
Northwest of the country, and fed the rivers which allowed India's civilisation
to begin to flourish. Though most of the Sindhu River is in Pakistan now, three
of its tributaries do flow through Punjab. The Brahmaputra, another Himalayan
river, flows through the northeastern part of India, mostly through Assam. These
are all wonderful sights, and are more than worth the while it would take to
stop and see them.
One large consideration is the climate of India. Climate will play a huge part
in your plans as to when to visit India. Do keep in mind though, that conditions
in the far north are always extremely different to those of the extreme south.
There is rain in India during only one specific time of the year in each region.
What causes it is called the monsoon, and the rainy season has been named after
this phenomenon as well. There are two monsoons, the Southwest and the
Northeast. The Southwest monsoon causes rains over a large portion of the
country, and it lasts from about summer to mid-fall. Considering the lay of the
land, this monsoon hits the western coast of India the worst. Due to this fact,
the western coastline is actually a lot greener than the rest of the country.
The Northeast monsoon hits the east coast usually around mid-fall through
winter, ending shortly before spring, and unfortunately causes much devastation
every year due to the occasional cyclones. The only part of India that receives
rainfall from both monsoons in the Northeastern area, and as such, has recorded
the highest yearly rainfall in the entire world.
India has a very large diversity of different cultures and traditions, which are
mainly dominated by religious and spiritual themes. It is most likely one of the
only countries where people of so many different religious beliefs, languages
and ethnic backgrounds actually coexist peacefully. Thanks to this, India is a
blend of many different people and traditions, all of which add to the exotic
beauty and glamour of this wonderful country. Another thing that is a great
point for travelers to know is that India's tourism ministry has started a
program called Atithi Devo Bhavah. It is meant to help train participants in the
tourism industry in being more sensitive to the needs of visitors. This is a
huge step in the tourism industry designed to make sure your stay in this exotic
country is not only more comfortable, but also more enjoyable.
