DISCOVER OAHU ![]() Once you step into the island of Oahu you will be dazzled by its diverseness. It has lots of activities, attractions and venues. This island is the third largest in Hawaii and most populous. This island is also called the “Gathering Place” and the state capital of Honolulu is located here. People often avoid Oahu because of its cosmopolitan feel, after arriving in Honolulu they proceed immediately to the other islands. With the advent of direct flights to other islands of Hawaii, they sometimes bypass Oahu and miss out on the exciting things in store for them in this island. There are many places to go to in Oahu where you could enjoy a relaxing vacation; you just have to know where to find the places. Head out to the famous Waikiki beach and enjoy swimming, canoeing, surfing and yachting. This two mile stretch of sandy beach is a favorite place for tourists who come to Oahu. Don’t fail to try out the traditional Waikiki outrigger canoe ride. One favorite family park in Oahu is the Ala Moana, which is Hawaiian for “Path to the Sea”. This beach with a recreational area is around 100 acres combined with the adjacent Aina Moana. It is situated in the southern part of the island and has a very vast area of reef protected beaches. If you want to visit the more popular swimming and snorkeling area in Oahu then head out to Hanauma Nature Bay Park which is located just 10 miles east of Waikiki Beach. The bay itself is now a State Underwater Park and Conservation District. This place is great for new scuba divers, snorkeling and just for plain swimming. |
